Stressors & Receptors

Stressors

Stressors are the parts of a device or a result of a device's functioning that may cause harm or stress to a marine animal, habitat, or ecosystem process.

Receptors

Receptors are the marine animals, habitats, and ecosystems processes that may be affected by stressors. For example, noise (the stressor) from a tidal turbine may affect a marine mammal (the receptor) by limiting its ability to communicate with others and navigate its environment.
