All power plants – coal, gas, nuclear, wind, and solar – have a finite life beyond which it is not economically feasible to operate.The majority of retirements of power generation facilities are expected to occur in North America and Western Europe.  Preparing a site for restoration or re-use can be a costly complex, multi-year process with many stakeholders involved.

Dr. Luchsinger has 30 years of experience in the development of energy resources. She holds advanced degrees in environmental geology, biogeochemistry, and climatology, with extensive experience in regulatory compliance and specializes in the siting, licensing, and permitting of energy resource development sites, from pre-construction through post-construction and grid interconnect.  She is currently the program manager leading siting and development efforts for new renewable power generation projects, license renewal of existing plants, and natural resource regulatory compliance.

Reconstruction after Decommissioning - SNH perspective

Kenny Taylor, Energy Policy and Advice Officer, Scottish Natural Heritage
Kenny will discuss Scottish Natural Heritage’s (SNH) remit and role in the planning process for onshore wind development and will offer statistics and information on onshore wind development in Scotland over the recent past. Kenny will share two Scottish case studies to highlight a number of key themes.

Kenny has been with the SNH since 2009 covering wind, hydropower, solar and micro-energy installations,  Kenny produces guidance to help with the understanding of the natural heritage impacts associated with renewables deployment, and proposes mitigation to limit them.
