TY - JOUR TI - Wind Power and Planning: The Environmental Impact of Windfarms in the UK AU - Coles, R AU - Taylor, J T2 - Land Use Policy AB - The recent surge of interest in wind technology in the UK has focused attention on the development of windfarms and their impacts on the environment. This article examines the nature of these impacts through an analysis of existing experience and six selected examples of windfarm development. A range of interactions, policies and practices are identified which could provide a background to the formulation of a policy framework for windfarm development, but which are not being considered by central government. Comment is made regarding the various techniques for landscape appraisal, including the identification of zones of influence, which could provide a useful basis for further research.
