TY - JOUR TI - Wind Energy: Progress and Potential AU - Kaygusuz, K T2 - Energy Sources AB - This article reviews the progress made by wind energy in the last 10 years, and discusses the potential of this technology. During the last decade of the 20th century, grid-connected wind capacity worldwide has doubled approximately every three years. Due to the fast market development, wind turbine technology has experienced an important evolution over time. Some of the countries with wind energy programmes are listed together with a discussion of how widely this energy source might be used. It concluded that, wind power is the fastest growing energy technology at the turn of the millennium, and will continue to grow for the foreseeable future due to it is abundant, domestic, inexhaustible and clean energy source.
