Recent Advances in Autonomous Environmental Monitoring Technologies to Support Offshore Wind Energy Development

The U.S. Offshore Wind Synthesis of Environmental Effects Research (SEER) project is hosting a free, public webinar series to share the latest research on the potential environmental effects of offshore wind energy development, including minimization and monitoring strategies. Each webinar will feature brief presentations from experts, a panel discussion, and an audience Q&A period.

For the second webinar in the 2023 series, the goal is to highlight recent advances in autonomous environmental monitoring technologies that support offshore wind energy development, with a particular focus on underwater platforms and sensors (e.g., gliders, passive acoustic buoys). Experts in this field of research will provide an overview of existing technologies and methodologies, and discuss their applicability to offshore wind energy development in U.S. waters and remaining challenges (e.g., data processing). The webinar will focus on the environmental data aimed to support responsible offshore wind energy development across U.S. regions and how autonomous technologies can help overcome environmental monitoring challenges in remote locations offshore.
